Ukrainian forces conducted overnight drone strikes on Russian oil facilities in the Krasnodar Krai region and Crimea, Ukrainian and Russian officials confirmed on Monday. The attacks targeted the Grushovaya oil transshipment base near Novorossiysk, one of Russia's largest hubs for oil and petroleum products, sparking a fire that required 130 rescue workers to extinguish. Russian authorities reported no casualties but did not disclose the extent of damage. Additionally, Ukraine struck the Krasny Yar facility in the Volgograd region and an oil depot near Feodosia in Crimea, where a fire broke out at a fuel storage base supplying Russian military operations.
Meanwhile, Russia's Defense Ministry claimed its forces shot down 310 Ukrainian drones overnight, including over Moscow, western and southwestern Russia, and the Black and Azov Seas. Ukraine's Air Force reported that Russian forces launched 155 drones, of which 124 were intercepted or suppressed by Ukrainian air defenses.
Separately, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich acted as a mediator between Kyiv and Moscow. Zelenskyy told Sky News that Abramovich delivered a message from Russian President Vladimir Putin, expressing Russia's desire to understand Ukraine's position. The EU's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, announced a new round of sanctions targeting Russia's military-industrial complex, human rights violators, and propagandists, estimating existing sanctions have cost Moscow $1.2-1.5 trillion.
