Former Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt has claimed he possesses incriminating footage of either Mayor Karen Bass or City Councilwoman Nithya Raman, suggesting it could force one of them to resign. Pratt, who finished third in the June 2 primary, made the allegation in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, stating he has recordings that would make one of the candidates "resign in shame." Bass and Raman will face off in the November runoff election.
Pratt’s Allegations and Threats
Pratt, who ran as an independent, called Bass and Raman "corrupt communists" and warned that the footage could lead to their resignation. He also suggested that law enforcement might take action against them, saying, "I assure you, they are coming." Pratt has been critical of Bass’s handling of the 2025 Palisades fires, which resulted in 12 deaths and significant property damage. He claimed he would use his newfound freedom from campaign restrictions to expose corruption in Los Angeles.
Bass’s Strong Latino Support
Meanwhile, an analysis of precinct data by the Los Angeles Times revealed that Bass carried 35 Latino-majority neighborhoods, far more than Raman or Pratt. Bass’s strong showing among Latino voters was attributed to her opposition to the Trump administration’s immigration policies. Pratt, however, has spread unfounded claims of voter fraud, including allegations that homeless individuals were paid to vote for Bass. Election officials and Bass’s campaign have denied these claims, calling them "absurd."
Pratt’s Post-Election Strategy
Pratt has indicated he will continue his efforts to expose corruption in Los Angeles, stating, "It’s war." He has also suggested that his campaign was never about political power but about exposing what he describes as a "corrupt machine." Neither Bass nor Raman’s campaigns have responded to Pratt’s allegations.
