The Williams sisters, Serena and Venus, will reunite for the Wimbledon doubles tournament after receiving a wildcard invitation from the All England Club. The announcement comes as Serena, 44, makes her return to professional tennis after a four-year hiatus. Venus, who turns 46 on Wednesday, has continued to compete sporadically. The sisters have won 14 Grand Slam titles together, including six at Wimbledon. Their last doubles appearance was at the 2022 U.S. Open, where they lost in the opening round.
Serena recently began her comeback at the Queen's Club Championships, partnering with Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko. However, their partnership was cut short due to Mboko's knee injury. Serena is currently playing doubles in Berlin with Karolina Muchova. The wildcard invitation ensures the Williams sisters will compete at Wimbledon, which begins on June 29.
The All England Club also granted wildcards to other notable players, including three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka, who plans to retire at the end of the season, and former Wimbledon semi-finalist Grigor Dimitrov. On the women's side, French Open runner-up Maja Chwalinska received a singles wildcard, along with six British players. Two more men's singles wildcards remain to be announced.
