A 12-year-old boy was fatally shot during a brawl in Nashville's theater district on Sunday night. Damarion Morehead was struck in the head at the intersection of Representative John Lewis Way and Deaderick Street, near the Tennessee Performing Arts Center. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Devin Orr, 24, was arrested and charged in connection with the shooting. Police say Orr retrieved a handgun during the altercation, which involved six to seven people, and fired shots before fleeing. Morehead fell to the ground after being struck. Orr allegedly admitted to discarding the weapon in a sewer, where investigators later recovered it.
The brawl reportedly began over a dispute involving a woman, according to police. Orr is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, though an attorney has not yet been listed for him.
Investigators reviewed video footage of the incident, which corroborated key details of the shooting. The Metro Nashville Police Department provided a statement outlining the sequence of events, including Orr's actions and the recovery of the firearm.
