The Milwaukee Bucks have finalized a blockbuster trade, sending two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and forward Bobby Portis to the Miami Heat. In return, the Bucks will receive Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks (including the No. 13 pick in the upcoming draft), a pick swap, and a second-round pick. The Heat also agreed to send unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033.
The trade ends Antetokounmpo's nine-year tenure with the Bucks, during which he led the team to its first NBA championship in 2021. The 31-year-old has been a cornerstone of the franchise, earning two MVP awards and a Finals MVP. However, recent seasons have seen the Bucks struggle, culminating in missing the playoffs entirely in the 2025-26 campaign.
The Boston Celtics were also in the mix, offering a package centered around All-Star Jaylen Brown and two first-round picks. However, Bucks owner Jimmy Haslam reportedly preferred the Heat's offer, citing concerns over Brown's potential future trade demands. The Heat's package was deemed more valuable, providing Milwaukee with additional assets and long-term flexibility.
Antetokounmpo, who posted a cryptic message on social media hours before the trade was announced, will now join a Heat team that includes Bam Adebayo and Norman Powell. The move is expected to make Miami an immediate contender in the Eastern Conference.
Meanwhile, Jaylen Brown has been vocal about the trade speculation surrounding him. In a recent Twitch stream, he addressed critics, stating, 'You're turning me into a monster.' Brown's future with the Celtics remains uncertain, as reports suggest he could be traded even if not part of the Antetokounmpo deal.
The trade is set to be finalized on July 6, leaving room for potential adjustments before the official execution.
