Former President Joe Biden delivered a pointed critique of President Donald Trump during a Maryland Democratic Party gala on Saturday night, marking one of his most direct public attacks on his successor since leaving office. Speaking at the "Fight Back & Win" summit in Hanover, Biden accused Trump of undermining U.S. alliances, engaging in "vanity projects," and profiting from the presidency. The event, attended by Maryland Gov. Wes Moore and other state officials, came as Biden continues to rally Democrats ahead of the general election season.
Biden claimed Americans view the economy more favorably under his administration than under Trump, citing Democratic victories in recent elections. He also accused Trump of weakening NATO and engaging in "corruption on a scale never seen before in American history." The former president was briefly interrupted by hecklers but continued his speech, which lasted approximately 10 minutes.
Biden's remarks echoed those of other speakers, including U.S. Sen. Chris Van Hollen, who urged Democrats to resist Trump's administration. The event followed Biden's withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race after a poor debate performance and his replacement by then-Vice President Kamala Harris, who lost to Trump in November.
