Two sisters and their friend have been charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of a 32-year-old mother of five in Del Rio, Texas. Caroline Peña, known as 'Caro' to friends and family, was stabbed multiple times in broad daylight on June 25 near a busy intersection. She died later that evening after being transported to a San Antonio hospital for emergency treatment.
Kitty Mia Diaz, 21, Amaya 'Cookie' Diaz, 19, and Kyandra Renee Faz, 21, were arrested Thursday following an investigation that included surveillance footage, physical evidence, and witness interviews. All three are being held at the GEO Correctional Facility pending further legal proceedings.
The attack occurred in the 800 block of East 10th Street, near a Sonic Drive-In, according to police. Witnesses described the incident as happening in broad daylight on one of the city's busiest roads. The investigation remains active, and authorities have not yet disclosed a motive for the attack.
Peña's childhood friend, Zelina Ochoa, told local media that the victim was a devoted mother to her five children. 'She was one of those people that she was born to be a mom,' Ochoa said. Another friend, Christina Salinas, mentioned missing a call from Peña shortly before the stabbing.
The Del Rio Police Department released a statement confirming the arrests and noting that additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
