President Trump launched a verbal assault on Washington D.C.'s mayor-elect, Janeese Lewis George, labeling her a 'communist' and warning against her policies. Simultaneously, he promoted plans for the East Potomac Golf Links, envisioning it as a major tournament venue.
Trump's Political Attacks on Lewis George
President Donald Trump criticized Washington, D.C.'s presumptive next mayor, Janeese Lewis George, calling her a 'communist' in a Truth Social post. Lewis George, a Democratic socialist, won the Democratic primary and is expected to win the November election in the heavily Democratic city.
Trump said he would meet with Lewis George but warned against her policies, including plans to make D.C. a sanctuary city, oppose ICE, and defund the police. He also claimed he had made Washington a 'Safe and Prestigious Community' during his administration. Lewis George, however, stated she would work with anyone for the best interest of D.C. residents.
Golf Course Renovation and Beautification Efforts
In a separate post, Trump highlighted his administration's efforts to beautify Washington, including resurfacing the Reflecting Pool with an 'American flag blue' coating. However, the coating has since peeled off, and algae has turned the water green. He also toured the golf course with Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and architects Tom Fazio and his son, Gavin Fazio. The renovation project is subject to a lawsuit in U.S. District Court. Additionally, debris from the White House East Wing demolition, containing lead and other toxic metals, was dumped on the golf course grounds.
