Princess Kate, the Princess of Wales, has completed the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge, climbing the highest mountains in England, Scotland, and Wales within 24 hours. The 44-year-old, who is in remission after undergoing chemotherapy for an undisclosed form of cancer, undertook the challenge to raise awareness for holistic cancer care and support The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
In a post on her official social media channels, Kate said the challenge was "not simply as a physical endeavour but as a chance to explore life beyond diagnosis and to give something back." She was supported by Mountain Rescue and cheered on by her family, including her husband Prince William and their three children, at the final summit of Snowdon in Wales.
The Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing Ben Nevis (1,345 meters), Scafell Pike (978 meters), and Snowdon (1,085 meters), covering a total walking distance of 23 miles (37 kilometres) and an ascent of 3,064 meters (10,052 feet). Kate was driven between the peaks by her team, making it a royal first as no other member of the Royal Family has completed the challenge.
Kate shared a deeply personal message about her cancer journey, stating that "cancer doesn’t just affect the body. It changes how you think and feel and profoundly affects every aspect of life." She emphasized the importance of holistic healthcare, noting that "the journey through and beyond treatment requires more than medicine alone."
The Princess of Wales disclosed her cancer diagnosis in March 2024 and revealed the following year that she was in remission. Her participation in the challenge highlights her commitment to raising awareness and supporting cancer patients and their families.
