The Senate Select Committee on Ethics has dismissed a complaint filed by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) against Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), finding no evidence of campaign finance violations or sexual misconduct. The committee's letter, dated June 26, informed Gallego that the allegations did not violate federal law, Senate rules, or related standards of conduct.
Luna initially filed the complaint on April 17, following cryptic social media posts hinting at allegations against Gallego. She later confirmed to CBS News that the complaint involved a woman allegedly coming forward with claims of sexual misconduct. Luna also suggested knowledge of four women with unnerving encounters involving Gallego. The senator has denied the allegations and criticized Luna for weaponizing the ethics process.
The ethics committee requested information from Gallego on April 17 and May 15, reviewing FEC reports and statements from individuals named in the complaint. Gallego's office stated he provided full cooperation throughout the investigation. The committee noted it retains the authority to revisit the matter if additional facts emerge.
Gallego welcomed the dismissal, calling the accusations right-wing conspiracies and demanding an apology from Luna. He also criticized her for not investigating what he described as historic corruption. Luna has not publicly responded to the dismissal.
The allegations against Gallego surfaced amid the resignation of former Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), a close friend of Gallego's, who faced sexual misconduct allegations. Gallego has denied knowledge of any misconduct by Swalwell.
