A Tesla SUV crashed into the outdoor dining area of Urbane Cafe in Simi Valley, California, on Monday afternoon, killing one woman and injuring five others, authorities said. The crash occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. near Tierra Rejada and Madera roads in a busy shopping center.
Police identified the deceased as a woman pinned under the vehicle, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, described as an elderly woman, was hospitalized with chest and arm pain. Four children were in the car at the time, with one taken to the hospital as a precaution for minor abrasions.
Surveillance footage showed the Tesla failed to make a right turn from the Target parking lot, veering onto the sidewalk and into the cafe's outdoor seating area. The vehicle came to a stop in the patio area, according to aerial footage from ABC News' KABC.
No arrests have been made, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased or additional details about the victims.
This incident follows a similar crash earlier this month in Katy, Texas, where a Tesla Model 3 struck a home, killing a woman. The family of the Texas victim has filed a lawsuit alleging the vehicle's driver-assistance technology contributed to the crash, though Tesla has disputed these claims.
