Lawyers for E. Jean Carroll have asked a federal judge to order President Donald Trump to immediately pay the $5 million judgment awarded to her by a Manhattan jury in 2023. The jury found Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation. Meanwhile, Trump's legal team has requested a delay in the payment and signaled plans to ask the Supreme Court to reconsider its decision to reject his appeal.
Carroll's attorney, Roberta Kaplan, filed a motion on Tuesday requesting an expedited schedule for the disbursement of the funds, including an additional $779,783 in interest. Kaplan cited a June 2023 agreement between the two sides that Carroll could collect the judgment if the Supreme Court denied Trump's petition. The court declined to hear the appeal on Monday.
Kaplan also highlighted the financial and emotional toll of the nearly four-year-old litigation on Carroll, arguing that further delays would be unjustified. Trump has vehemently denied Carroll's allegations, claiming he did not know her and that she was not his type. The original jury verdict was reached in under three hours, with a unanimous decision.
