During a House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity and Security hearing on Tuesday, parents of children murdered by illegal immigrants confronted lawmakers over sanctuary city policies. Jessica Gorman, mother of Sheridan Gorman, an 18-year-old Loyola University student fatally shot by an illegal immigrant, criticized Democratic members of Congress for prioritizing sanctuary policies over American lives. Gorman tearfully recounted how the accused killer, Jose Medina-Medina, a Venezuelan illegal immigrant, had been previously arrested for shoplifting but released in Chicago due to sanctuary policies. She accused lawmakers of failing to protect her daughter and pleaded, 'I’m just asking you to choose us. We choose you.'
Tammy Nobles, another 'angel mom' whose daughter was killed by an MS-13 gang member, warned lawmakers that families of victims would continue advocating for policy changes. 'If you guys don’t do anything, it will continue to happen, and we will continue having those meetings,' she said. Nobles and Gorman emphasized the need for stricter immigration enforcement and accountability for sanctuary city policies.
Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) responded by stating that Congress had other priorities beyond sanctuary city hearings, marking the fourth such session. The hearing examined sanctuary policies in Illinois and California, which critics argue prioritize illegal immigrants over public safety.
