Members of Congress gathered at Independence Hall in Philadelphia on July 2 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The event, organized by Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-PA), marked the anniversary of the Second Continental Congress’s vote for independence in 1776, two days before the Declaration was signed.
Bipartisan attendance included House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), and Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-AL). Boyle emphasized the nation’s founding principles, stating that the work of the founders continues through generations of Americans fighting for liberty and equality. He called on colleagues to 'rededicate' themselves to the country’s ideals.
The lawmakers did not wear historic attire, opting for standard business attire. Boyle highlighted that the struggle for freedom and equality remains central to the American story.
