A portion of the main stage for the Freedom 250 July 4 celebration collapsed during a rehearsal, narrowly missing a group of dancers. The incident occurred at the Great American State Fair on Thursday, with video footage showing the overhead structure falling onto the stage. No injuries were reported, and the rehearsal was immediately halted.
The Freedom 250 organization, established by the Trump administration to coordinate and fund celebrations for America’s 250th birthday, has not yet released an official statement regarding the cause of the collapse or whether safety inspections will be conducted before the scheduled July 4 festivities.
The incident adds to recent setbacks surrounding the Freedom 250 festivities, which have faced disruptions from extreme heat, low attendance, and organizational challenges. Some states have opted not to participate in the multi-day event, and organizers have faced criticism over delays and poor infrastructure.
Additionally, a separate issue arose with a replica of President Donald Trump’s proposed victory arch, which appeared to be oozing a yellow substance. The plywood model, installed at the center of the National Mall, drew attention on social media for its structural issues.
