Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) remains hospitalized, with a spokesperson confirming he is 'continuing to improve.' On June 14, the day of his hospitalization, emergency medical personnel responded to a 'cardiac arrest' at an address associated with McConnell, according to police scanner audio obtained by NBC News and CBS News. The dispatcher called in a 'cardiac arrest' and a medic reported 'CPR in progress,' though the identity of the unconscious person was not confirmed in the dispatch call.
McConnell’s team has not confirmed whether the emergency response involved the senator or provided further details about his hospitalization. The spokesperson stated that McConnell 'appreciates the outpouring of support' and is working with staff on Senate and Kentucky matters while the chamber is out of session.
McConnell, 84, has faced several health scares in recent years. In May, he appeared with a bandage on his hand during a committee hearing. In February, he spent over a week in the hospital with 'flu-like symptoms.' In 2023, he was hospitalized with a concussion after a fall and later suffered minor injuries from another fall in 2024. McConnell is a childhood polio survivor.
