Washington, D.C., is preparing for what organizers say will be the largest fireworks display in U.S. history, featuring 850,000 individual fireworks over a 40-minute span to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary on July 4. The event, organized by Freedom 250, will launch from eight barges on the Potomac River and firing sites along the Reflecting Pool, stretching over a mile across the National Mall.
Heat Wave Adjustments: Due to a record-breaking heat wave, organizers delayed the event’s start time from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. to avoid peak temperatures. President Donald Trump is scheduled to deliver remarks at 9:45 p.m., followed by the fireworks at 10:45 p.m. The display is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of attendees.
Technical and Logistical Details: Pyrotecnico, a family-owned company with five generations of experience, is overseeing the show. The fireworks, sourced from the U.S., Italy, Spain, and Asia, will be synchronized using GPS and communication devices on each barge. Over 60 technicians have spent weeks assembling the display, which includes patriotic music like “Party in the U.S.A.” and “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue.”
Political Context: President Trump has described the event as a “Tribute to America,” emphasizing military performances and patriotic themes. The celebration coincides with his visit to Mount Rushmore ahead of the festivities.
