Former NFL defensive end and sports broadcaster Marcellus Wiley was arrested on July 4 in Orlando, Florida, on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge. According to an arrest affidavit, Wiley’s wife, Annemarie Wiley, called police after an altercation at the World Marriott hotel, where she alleged he threatened to kill her and physically touched her against her will.
The affidavit states that deputies responded to the hotel at approximately 4:47 p.m. after Annemarie Wiley requested her husband be removed from their shared room. She told authorities that Wiley had threatened to kill her and that she feared for her safety. She also alleged that on the morning of July 3, Wiley used one finger to poke her in the cheek, an act she described as intentional and harmful. The incident was reportedly witnessed by their 7-year-old daughter, though the child told deputies she did not see any physical contact.
Annemarie Wiley further claimed that Wiley had an unreported history of violence toward her and that she planned to divorce him upon returning to California. She did not seek medical attention, and deputies noted no visible injuries. Wiley was released from custody on Sunday after posting a $1,000 cash bond.
Wiley denied the allegations, stating that no physical altercation occurred and that his wife’s claims were motivated by her intention to divorce him. He provided text messages to police that he described as cordial. In a social media post, Wiley denied the allegations and stated that the truth would prevail.
Wiley, 51, played in the NFL for 10 years and later worked as a sports commentator. This arrest follows separate allegations of sexual assault against him in April, which he has also denied.
