FIFA has launched an investigation into allegations of racist abuse directed at American YouTuber IShowSpeed during Argentina's Round of 32 match against Cape Verde at the FIFA World Cup 2026. The incident occurred on July 3 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, where IShowSpeed, wearing a Cape Verde jersey, was reportedly confronted by an Argentina supporter. Video footage from his livestream shows the fan allegedly making a racist remark, prompting FIFA to take action.
FIFA condemned the alleged abuse in a statement, emphasizing its zero-tolerance policy for racism, hate, and discrimination. 'The FIFA World Cup is a celebration of unity, diversity, and respect,' the statement read. 'Anyone who acts in a manner that undermines these values is not welcome in our game.'
The probe comes amid heightened scrutiny over racism at the tournament, following a separate controversy involving France captain Kylian Mbappe and a Paraguayan senator's remarks. IShowSpeed, whose real name is Darren Jason Watkins Jr., has become a prominent figure at the World Cup, livestreaming matches and interacting with fans. He has over 57 million YouTube subscribers and 53 million TikTok followers.
The investigation is ongoing, with FIFA yet to release further details. IShowSpeed has not publicly commented on the incident.
