Bijou Phillips, 46, has successfully undergone a kidney transplant after a public plea for a donor earlier this year. The actress and model, daughter of Mamas & the Papas founder John Phillips, shared the news on Instagram, expressing gratitude to the donor, medical staff, and her brother, who participated in a kidney exchange program.
Phillips, who was born with an underdeveloped kidney, received her first transplant in 2017 from a close friend but faced complications, including the BK virus, which affected the transplant's success. She was placed back on dialysis while awaiting a new kidney.
In February, Phillips publicly announced her urgent need for a kidney, stating she was 'hanging on by a thread.' Her plea led to a successful match through UCLA Health's voucher program, where her brother also donated a kidney, saving another life in the process. Phillips praised Dr. Jeffrey Veale and the medical team for their care and innovative techniques, noting she felt significantly better just five days post-surgery.
Phillips, who shares a daughter with ex-husband Danny Masterson, emphasized her gratitude to everyone who responded to her call for help, highlighting the importance of organ donation.
