Republican Rep. Mike Flood of Nebraska faced a hostile crowd at a town hall meeting in Bellevue on Tuesday, where attendees booed and shouted as he defended President Donald Trump's policies and other legislative actions. The event, recorded by ABC affiliate KETV, saw Flood confronted on issues including the SAVE America Act, Israel, NATO, and the bipartisan housing bill, among others.
This was not the first time Flood has encountered angry crowds at town halls. In May 2024, he was shouted down in Seward, Nebraska, while defending the then-proposed One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The following month, after Trump signed the bill into law, Flood faced another hostile crowd in Lincoln, where attendees questioned its impact on Medicaid.
During Tuesday's town hall, one attendee shouted 'F------ liar!' at Flood as he discussed declining violent crime rates and the Trump administration's deportation efforts. Flood responded by citing statistics, stating that violent crime had decreased in cities like Washington, D.C., and New York City, attributing the decline to incarceration and deportation efforts. He also faced jeers when supporting the SAVE America Act and voter ID laws, key issues in Trump's policy agenda.
Some audience members applauded when Flood deviated from the administration's stance, such as when he confirmed that the 14th Amendment grants birthright citizenship. The town hall highlighted the contentious political climate ahead of the midterm elections, with Flood's reception potentially foreshadowing challenges other lawmakers may face.
