Four people were arrested and a police officer was injured after violent disorder broke out on Edgware Road in central London following Morocco's 2-0 World Cup quarter-final defeat to France. The incident began when a group of people congregated in the road, blocking traffic, before escalating into clashes with officers. Footage on social media showed fireworks being set off and bottles thrown at police, while officers in riot gear were deployed to the scene.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that one officer was taken to hospital with head injuries after being hit by a glass bottle. No other injuries were reported. The force stated that the incident was initially sparked by a group blocking traffic, which then escalated into violent disorder. Four arrests were made for violent disorder, and the road was reopened by around 1am.
