A 17-year-old suspect has been arrested in Texas in connection with a deadly shooting at a high school graduation ceremony in Fairfield, California. The arrest follows an investigation into the June 3 incident at Sem Yeto High School, which shares a campus with Fairfield High School. One person was killed, and three others were injured in the shooting.
Fairfield Police Department announced the arrest on Friday, stating that the suspect had fled to Texas shortly after the incident. Police worked with the U.S. Marshals Service to locate and apprehend the suspect in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and will be extradited to Solano County to face charges, including murder.
Investigators conducted dozens of witness interviews and reviewed hours of surveillance footage to identify the suspect. The victim was identified as 18-year-old Jamario Baker, who had just received his diploma at the time of the shooting. The three other individuals injured in the attack were ages 11, 20, and 25.
Police emphasized that the investigation remains active and urged anyone with additional information to come forward. The suspect’s motive and other details about the case have not been publicly disclosed.
