Josh Grisetti, a Broadway actor known for his roles in 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' and 'Something Rotten!,' has died at the age of 44. His death was confirmed by his co-star and close friend, Rob McClure, who announced on Instagram that Grisetti died by suicide on Friday. McClure expressed his grief, calling the loss 'cataclysmic' and sharing heartfelt memories of their time working together. Grisetti's wife, Mackenzie Perpich, whom he married in 2020, and his family have been left to grapple with the tragedy.
Grisetti was a prominent figure in the theater world, having performed in numerous Broadway and off-Broadway productions. His notable roles included Nigel Bottom in 'Something Rotten!' and appearances in 'Rent,' 'Peter and the Starcatcher,' and 'Enter Laughing.' He also appeared in the fifth season of 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' as Ralph Emerson. His regional theater credits included performances in 'Spamalot,' 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,' and 'Beauty & the Beast.'
Prior to his death, Grisetti had recently left a production of 'Legally Blonde' at the Trentino Music Festival for personal reasons. His final Instagram post thanked the cast for a tribute they performed in his honor. The La Mirada Theatre, where he had performed, also paid tribute to him on social media, thanking him for his 'beautiful energy and immense talent.'
Grisetti's agent, Rick Ferrari, described the loss as devastating. The actor's career began with regional theater productions before he transitioned to Broadway and television. He studied drama at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and later trained in musical theater at the Boston Conservatory. His role in 'Something Rotten!' earned him two Drama Desk Award nominations.
Details about a memorial service for Grisetti are expected to be announced in the coming days.
