A deputy U.S. Marshal was fatally shot on Monday while serving an arrest warrant in Alexandria, Louisiana, according to the U.S. Marshals Service. The suspect, who sustained injuries during the encounter, was taken into custody after a lengthy standoff and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The incident occurred at approximately 3 p.m. in the Rutland Road area, where authorities were attempting to arrest a wanted fugitive. The Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office, Louisiana State Police, and the FBI are conducting a joint investigation into the shooting. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed on social media that the bureau is offering full resources to the sheriff's office and marshals service.
