A New York man, Isaac Argro, has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the 2022 murder of his ex-girlfriend, Azsia Johnson, as she pushed their 3-month-old daughter in a stroller. The sentencing follows Argro's May 2024 conviction on murder charges.
Prosecutors stated that Argro lured Johnson to a Manhattan playground under the pretense of giving her items for their child before shooting her point-blank in the temple. The infant was unharmed. Johnson, 20, had left Argro after enduring physical and emotional abuse, prosecutors said, but agreed to meet him to attempt co-parenting.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg called the case a tragic end to Johnson's efforts to rebuild her life. Argro, 26, was arrested two days after the shooting. Former New York Mayor Eric Adams and other officials attended a vigil for Johnson the day after the killing, and supporters continue to honor her memory annually at the shooting site.
