Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo was pulled over by a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer on May 15 for allegedly failing to stop at a red light before making a right turn. Body camera footage shows Lombardo identifying himself as the governor during the brief interaction, after which the officer allowed him to continue without issuing a citation.
The officer approached Lombardo’s light-gray Ford pickup truck and began explaining the reason for the stop. Lombardo interrupted to say, 'I’m Joe Lombardo.' The officer responded, 'I’m aware,' and continued to explain the stop was for an incomplete stop. Lombardo replied, 'Come on, man,' and the officer then said, 'You’re good to go, sir. Appreciate ya. Have a good day,' and walked away. The entire interaction lasted about 15 seconds of the 1 minute and 10-second video.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that Lombardo did not receive a citation but did not provide a specific reason for the decision. Law enforcement officials note that it is common practice to forgo citations in certain minor traffic stops.
