A truck driver who caused a deadly multi-vehicle crash on the I-10 Freeway in October 2025 has been sentenced to four years and eight months in state prison. Jashanpreet Singh, 21, pleaded guilty in June to three counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence. The crash, which involved four semi-trucks and four passenger vehicles, killed three people and injured four others near the 15 Freeway interchange in Ontario, California.
Dashcam footage showed Singh failing to brake in slowing traffic, leading to a collision that ignited a fire in one of the vehicles. Among the fatalities were Clarence and Lisa Nelson, a former Pomona High School assistant basketball coach and his wife.
Singh, an undocumented immigrant from India, entered the U.S. through the southern border in 2022, according to federal authorities. He obtained a California commercial driver's license in June 2025, despite federal warnings about compliance issues with non-citizen licenses. In September 2025, federal officials directed California to pause new license issuances to non-citizens and review existing licenses, citing potential non-compliance with federal requirements.
The crash has sparked discussions about immigration enforcement and commercial driver licensing policies. Federal officials have emphasized the need for stricter oversight, while advocates highlight the broader challenges of integrating undocumented immigrants into the workforce.
