Two families are suing Unity Medical Center in Grafton, North Dakota, alleging hospital staff mistakenly switched two baby boys at birth on Jan. 26, 1988. The plaintiffs, Kyle Bylin and Jeremy Morrison, claim they were raised by each other’s biological families without anyone’s knowledge for over 36 years.
The lawsuit states that Morrison, now living in Colorado, discovered the mix-up after taking a DNA test two years ago. His aunt provided a sample, revealing that Bylin was her nephew. Morrison noted physical differences in his family, saying, 'I was that blonde-haired kid that stood out in a family full of brown-haired people.' He also expressed that his life trajectory would have been different if he had been raised by his biological parents.
Both sets of parents have met their biological sons, but the two men have not yet met each other. Unity Medical Center denied the allegations, citing the lack of records and staff from the time of the incident. The hospital stated it is 'working to better understand the highly unusual situation' but emphasized that no relevant records or staff remain from 1988.
The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages, and the hospital has asked the court to dismiss the case with prejudice. The legal battle continues as both sides present their arguments.
