Emergent, an AI-powered vibe-coding startup, has raised $300 million in a Series C funding round, achieving a $1.5 billion valuation. The company, launched just a year ago, is the second Indian AI firm in a month to reach unicorn status, following Sarvam’s $234 million raise in May. Bengaluru-based Creaegis led the round, joined by investors like Claypond, Sentinel Global, Khosla Ventures, SoftBank Vision Fund 2, Lightspeed, and Y Combinator.
Emergent’s platform enables non-technical users to build apps, with 70% of its users having no prior coding experience. The company claims 12 million apps were created on its platform in the past year by small business owners and solo entrepreneurs. Meanwhile, Sarvam, a full-stack sovereign AI company, also hit a $1.5 billion valuation after its recent funding round.
Deepika Giri, head of research for AI at IDC Asia Pacific, noted that nearly half of Indian enterprises are testing agentic AI solutions, marking unusually fast adoption for a market of this size. Emergent’s CEO, Mukund Jha, emphasized that AI is not replacing developers but expanding demand for software and automation. He highlighted the rise of a new class of builders and the need for workers to adapt to AI-driven roles.
Jha stressed the importance of curiosity and problem-solving skills in the AI era, noting that employees at Emergent now wear multiple hats, such as designers writing code and engineers handling design. He advised aspiring developers to leverage AI tools to enhance their capabilities, though he cautioned against relying solely on AI for solutions.
