Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear revealed in a recent interview that he received two calls from unspecified agencies indicating that Senator Mitch McConnell had died while hospitalized. Beshear, a Democrat, did not specify which agencies contacted him or when the calls occurred. Both Beshear and McConnell's offices have been reached for comment.
McConnell, a Republican from Kentucky, has been hospitalized since June after suffering a fall. His office released a statement on July 12 confirming he was being treated for injuries from the fall. A photograph of McConnell in a hospital bed with his wife, Elaine Chao, was also shared. The statement clarified that McConnell did not suffer a heart attack, stroke, or any serious conditions like tumors or hemorrhages.
Prior to the announcement, there was speculation about McConnell's health due to the lack of transparency from his office. Emergency dispatch audio from June 14 revealed that McConnell was unconscious and may have suffered a heart attack. Beshear had previously called for more transparency from McConnell regarding his health, comparing it to his own public stance on addressing health concerns of former President Joe Biden.
McConnell's prolonged absence from public view has sparked debate among GOP senators, with some demanding answers about his condition. Senator Tommy Tuberville, for example, has been vocal about the need for clarity from McConnell's office.
