In a Truth Social post, Trump claimed Burnham would 'open up, all the way, the invaluable North Sea Oil,' predicting it would turn the UK 'from a Poverty Stricken Disaster to one of the Richest Countries anywhere in the World.' He also criticized wind turbines near Aberdeen, calling them 'old and horrible looking.'
Burnham, who takes office on Monday, has not confirmed the reports. Labour's deputy leader, Lucy Powell, said Burnham would stick to the party's manifesto commitments but pursue a 'more pragmatic approach.' The manifesto previously opposed new North Sea licences, arguing they would not lower energy bills or improve security while accelerating climate change. However, Burnham is reportedly open to drilling in fields like Rosebank and Jackdaw, where licences have already been granted.
