Sausalito City Manager Elaine Forbes was arrested on suspicion of burglary early Saturday morning, just weeks after starting her role. The arrest occurred at 501 Humboldt Ave., near the Sausalito Yacht Harbor, where authorities found Forbes inside a yacht that did not belong to her. She was held on $50,000 bail.
The Sausalito Police Department and Marin County Sheriff’s Office are handling the investigation, with officials declining to comment on specifics. Forbes, 53, was placed on administrative leave two days before her arrest. A statement from her family cited a mental health crisis, urging compassion and patience as facts emerge.
Forbes previously served as the executive director of the Port of San Francisco for nine years. The city described the arrest as a difficult development for staff and the community.
