A former Clinton administration official and lifelong Democrat, Jamie Metzl, has warned that the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) pose a significant threat to the Democratic Party. Speaking on Fox & Friends Tuesday, Metzl called on House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and other party leaders to take a firm stance against the DSA, which he described as a 'radical extremist movement.'
Metzl argued that the DSA seeks to 'seize the means of production' and 'eradicate police and prisons,' framing the group's agenda as divisive. He urged Jeffries to reject any alliance with the DSA, warning that failure to do so could 'destroy' the Democratic Party. Meanwhile, Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) has also criticized the DSA, accusing the group of attempting to 'use' the Democratic Party for its own ends.
In a separate development, streamer Hasan Piker delivered a speech at the College Democrats convention wearing a Mao-style suit, calling for the purging of centrist elements from the Democratic Party. Piker has previously expressed admiration for Mao Zedong, stating he 'never would and never will criticize' the Chinese leader. He has also claimed to have 'no patriotism for America' and has defended Islamic terrorism, including the 9/11 attacks, as justified.
Piker's influence within progressive circles has grown, with Democrats campaigning alongside him and mainstream media outlets treating him as a legitimate political voice. His rhetoric has drawn comparisons to historical extremists, though his supporters argue he represents a growing faction within the party.
