Lionsgate has officially retouched the poster for La La Land to correct Ryan Gosling's hand pose, a detail that had bothered the actor for a decade. The updated artwork, unveiled on Monday, aligns Gosling's hand with Emma Stone's in the iconic dance scene, replacing the flat-handed pose he previously called "La La Hand."
The change comes ahead of the film's 10th anniversary re-release, beginning August 16. Gosling had previously expressed regret over the pose, telling The Wall Street Journal in 2024 that he believed it "killed the energy" of the scene. He even recreated the corrected pose in an Instagram video last March, joking that it was his "Hail Mary" attempt to fix the mistake.
Justin Manfredi, Lionsgate's EVP and Head of Worldwide TV Marketing, confirmed the update at an event on Monday, stating that the new poster would replace all existing versions across global platforms. The original poster, featuring Gosling's flat-handed pose, had become a recurring point of frustration for the actor, who felt it was a missed opportunity to enhance the film's visual impact.
Directed by Damien Chazelle, La La Land was nominated for 14 Oscars and won six, including Best Director and Best Actress for Stone. The film's re-release is expected to draw renewed attention to the musical, which remains a cultural touchstone nearly a decade after its debut.
