Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) has expressed skepticism about Fauci's testimony, calling him "arrogant" and suggesting he will not provide meaningful answers. Johnson has criticized Fauci's handling of the pandemic response, while Paul has repeatedly claimed, without substantial evidence, that the virus was artificially enhanced in a Chinese lab and that Fauci and other officials suppressed the lab-leak theory.
Meanwhile, newly released diary entries from Fauci, published by Paul, offer insights into Fauci's interactions with political figures, celebrities, and media personalities during the pandemic. The diaries describe an initially warm relationship with former President Donald Trump, which later deteriorated, as well as tensions with White House officials like Mark Meadows, who reportedly pressured Fauci to soften his public messaging.
Fauci has previously denied allegations of a cover-up and has stated that the NIAID did not fund gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab. He was pardoned by former President Biden before leaving office, amid concerns he could face legal action from the Trump administration. Fauci retired from government work in 2022 after serving as a presidential adviser since the Reagan administration.
