Suri Cruise, the 20-year-old daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, has legally changed her last name from Cruise to Noelle, her mother's middle name. The change was confirmed through voter registration records in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, where Suri is a student at Carnegie Mellon University.
Suri, who is set to begin her junior year, has been using the name Suri Noelle publicly since her high school graduation in 2024. According to public records, she registered to vote in Pennsylvania under her new name in October 2024. The name change suggests she may have legally altered it before moving to Pittsburgh for college, as she did not file a name change request in Pennsylvania.
Katie Holmes, who has sole legal custody of Suri, previously expressed pride in her daughter's independence. "I’m proud of my daughter. Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I’m really proud of her, and I’m happy," Holmes told Town & Country in 2024. The actress has been estranged from Tom Cruise since their 2012 divorce and has distanced herself from Scientology.
Monica Mazzei, Chair of Buchalter’s Family Law Group, noted that as an adult, Suri has the legal right to change her name without parental consent. "You can legally change your name to anything you want," Mazzei told Fox News Digital. Representatives for Cruise and Holmes did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Suri’s decision follows a pattern seen in other celebrity families, such as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s children, some of whom have also dropped their father’s last name amid estrangement.
