George Clooney and his wife, Amal Clooney, have evacuated their home in Brignoles, France, as wildfires threaten the region. The couple, along with their 9-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, left their estate near Brignoles in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region after fires spread across southern Europe, including France, Greece, Italy, and Spain.
In a letter to Brignoles Mayor Didier Brémond, Clooney expressed uncertainty about the fate of their home but vowed to support the community. 'As we evacuate Brignoles, we want to emphasise two things: first, we hope you and the people of our city are safe, and second, that Amal and I are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole,' he wrote.
The evacuation comes as wildfires continue to ravage southern Europe. In France, an uncontained wildfire roughly four times the size of Paris was burning in the southwestern part of the country, separate from the fire threatening Brignoles. About 3,000 people were evacuated from the Brignoles area, while more than 300,000 people have been displaced in France and Spain due to the fires. Three firefighters died in Greece as crews battled extreme heat, drought, and strong winds.
The Clooneys moved to their estate near Brignoles in 2021. The town, home to just under 18,000 people, is located in a region heavily affected by the fires. The couple has not yet responded to requests for additional comment.
