Los Angeles police have arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man at the Sylmar/San Fernando Metrolink station on Friday afternoon, authorities confirmed.
A man was stabbed to death on the platform of the Sylmar/San Fernando Metrolink station at approximately 2:05 p.m. on Friday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Officers responded to reports of the stabbing and found the victim bleeding on the ground, where he was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s identity has not been released.
Police established a perimeter and launched a manhunt for the suspect, who was described as a man in a reflective vest. Aerial footage showed officers in a standoff position near a motel adjacent to the station, and a white police canopy was later placed over the victim’s body on the platform. Metrolink confirmed the station remained open and accessible, though passengers were directed to board and exit through the back two cars to avoid disrupting the active crime scene.
Suspect in custody after hours-long search
Shortly after 7 p.m. Friday, the LAPD announced that an adult suspect had been taken into custody. There were no other suspects involved, according to authorities. Homicide detectives are continuing to investigate the motive behind the attack.
Metrolink service operated normally during the afternoon rush hour, with trains continuing to run through the Sylmar/San Fernando station. A spokesperson for the commuter rail system stated that the incident did not affect service.
Community concerns over station safety
Some commuters expressed unease about safety at the Sylmar/San Fernando station following the incident. Yanira Ramos, a nurse who regularly uses the Metrolink line, described the scene after the attack as unsettling. "I got here when the medical examiner came and picked up the body itself," she said. "There was a bunch of cops and detectives. It was still fenced off. But it's just a lot of stuff going on." Ramos added that she did not always feel safe at the station.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not released additional details about the victim, suspect, or circumstances leading to the attack.
