A group of prominent conservative figures, including former U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, podcaster Tucker Carlson, Rep. Thomas Massie, and former National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent, held a private meeting in Maine on Saturday to discuss the formation of a new political movement.
The gathering, hosted at Carlson’s cabin, included Greene’s husband Brian Glenn, Massie’s wife Carolyn Grace Moffa, and Kent’s wife Heather Kaiser Kent. A photograph of the attendees seated around a wooden table was posted by Greene on social media, with Carlson positioned at the head of the table. The room was decorated with vintage shotguns, an American flag, and a chandelier made of taxidermy deer antlers.
In a post on X, Greene stated: 'We said no more foreign wars, and we meant it and supported Donald Trump because he made that promise. But he’s betrayed us all. Our commitment is America First for all Americans, right, left, and center. The movement has begun.' Massie shared Greene’s post with the caption 'This meeting will not be televised.'
The meeting follows recent speculation about a potential third-party political vehicle, with Carlson previously discussing the idea of a new movement for voters dissatisfied with both major parties. Greene’s break with Trump marks a reversal from her prior role as one of his staunchest allies, with disputes over U.S. military actions and the administration’s refusal to release additional Jeffrey Epstein-related documents cited as key factors in the split.
Greene has since called for the GOP to be 'burned to the ground,' arguing it had become captive to leadership and donors. Trump revoked his endorsement of Greene in public statements following her criticism.
Reactions to the meeting
Some conservative figures, including far-right activist Laura Loomer, have criticized Greene’s involvement in the new movement. Loomer referred to Greene as a 'traitor' in response to her post, while right-wing media personality Alex Jones expressed support, calling the group 'a great group of Americans.'
The meeting’s participants have not yet announced formal plans for a new party, though Greene’s post suggests the effort is underway. The group’s stated goal is to advance an 'America First' agenda that they argue Trump has abandoned, emphasizing opposition to foreign wars and a focus on policies they believe benefit all Americans regardless of political affiliation.
