A 3-year-old girl in Boynton Beach, Florida, died four days after her head became stuck in a kitchen playset while under the care of a babysitter’s spouse. The incident occurred on July 23, and the child, identified as Briella, was pronounced dead on July 27, according to authorities.
Police responded to a report of an unresponsive child at a residence in the Meadows of Boynton Beach shortly after 11 a.m. on July 23. Upon arrival, officers found the toddler not breathing and began life-saving measures before Boynton Beach Fire Rescue transported her to a nearby hospital. She remained in critical condition until her death four days later.
The child and her sibling were in the care of the babysitter’s spouse at the time of the incident, as the babysitter had left the residence. The spouse remained upstairs, periodically checking on the children and bringing them snacks. During one of these checks, the spouse found the toddler with her head stuck in the toy kitchen playset.
Authorities stated that the toddler’s sibling reported that some of the children’s toys had fallen into the play kitchen, and Briella became trapped while attempting to retrieve them. The spouse freed the child and immediately began performing life-saving measures until first responders arrived.
The Boynton Beach Police Department confirmed that no criminal charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have not disclosed how long the child was stuck in the playset before being found.
In a GoFundMe page created in Briella’s memory, loved ones described her as “a bright light in the lives of so many,” with a “kind heart, a beautiful spirit, and a smile that could light up any room.”
