Police have named Matthew Flores, 27, as a suspect in the disappearance of his parents after the remains of two people were found buried in the backyard of their Arizona home. Authorities confirmed the discovery Thursday, marking a significant development in the investigation.
Police confirm foul play and suspect fled country
Officers from the Avondale Police Department conducted a welfare check at the Litchfield Park residence on Tuesday after family members reported the couple and their son missing. Upon arrival, police found no one at the home but identified evidence of foul play, including a large amount of blood and signs of an attempt to conceal it, according to Avondale police spokesperson Officer Daniel Benavidez.
The remains, found Thursday in the backyard, have not yet been identified. Benavidez stated the bodies were in a state of decomposition and that the investigation remains active. The names of the deceased have not been released at the family’s request.
Suspect’s whereabouts remain unknown
Flores, who was initially reported missing alongside his parents, is now considered a suspect and is believed to have fled the country. Police have not disclosed the specific destination or further details about his movements. Authorities are appealing to the public for any information regarding Flores’ location or activities.
Neighbor Alec Rogers told Fox 10 that he heard yelling near the home on Tuesday morning but did not witness any specific incident. Rogers described the father as a friendly neighbor but noted limited interaction.
Police have established a hotline for tips at 623-333-7001 and continue to investigate the case with assistance from the Phoenix Police Department’s homicide unit.
