The U.S. Department of War has released its fifth tranche of declassified Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) files, including military footage from 2025 and pilot accounts of a 500-foot triangular object observed over Bagram Airfield in 2002.
Military video from 2025 shows an object tracked by a U.S. military sensor over the Middle East, according to a report submitted to the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO). The footage, totaling 1 minute and 39 seconds, was captured by an electro-optical and infrared sensor aboard a military platform. The sensor adjusted magnification and collection mode multiple times to track the object, which moved across the frame from left to right. The Department of War noted that the footage was submitted by U.S. Central Command as part of the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters (PURSUE).
Separately, declassified files include a 2002 account from a military pilot who described observing a silent, 500-foot triangular object pass over Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan. The pilot reported that the object moved steadily without visible lights, causing stars to temporarily disappear as it passed overhead. The witness made the account during an FBI interview, as documented in the released files.
Additional files contain historical claims, including a 1963 report of a metal sphere crashing into Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, creating a 13-foot-deep crater. The object was described as having window-like openings covered with thick glass and allegedly containing a human body dressed in heavy clothing with undecipherable markings. The records emphasize that these are witness statements and media reports, not verified government findings.
The Department of War stated that the release is part of an ongoing effort to declassify historical UAP materials. The files were made public following a directive from former President Donald Trump, who announced in February 2024 that his administration would identify and release government files related to UAPs, UFOs, and extraterrestrial life. The statement included a post on Truth Social: “Based on the tremendous interest shown, I will be directing the Secretary of War, and other relevant Departments and Agencies, to begin the process of identifying and releasing Government files related to alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), and unidentified flying objects (UFOs).”
The newly released materials do not provide evidence confirming extraterrestrial origins for any of the observed phenomena. Officials have reiterated that the files consist of unverified reports, witness accounts, and historical media coverage rather than definitive findings.
The Department of War spokesperson Sean Parnell stated in a release: “Today, the Department of War is publishing the fifth release of declassified and historical Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) files as part of the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters (PURSUE).”
