Brooks Koepka, a five-time major champion, described his first season back on the PGA Tour as 'pretty pathetic' after finishing 94th in the FedEx Cup standings, narrowly missing the playoffs.
Koepka, who returned to the PGA Tour in 2024 after nearly four years on the LIV Golf tour, secured just one top-10 finish in 16 starts. His best result came at the Cognizant Classic in March, where he tied for ninth. The tour’s top 70 players advance to the FedEx Cup Playoffs, which begin next week with the St. Jude Championship in Memphis.
Reception and Performance Contrast
Despite his on-course struggles, Koepka expressed satisfaction with his reception upon returning to the PGA Tour. He stated his overall happiness was a 10 out of 10, calling the experience 'great' and 'fantastic.' His final round at the Wyndham Championship ended with a 70, placing him tied for 67th at 3-under for the tournament, 19 strokes behind winner Michael Brennan.
Financial and Structural Consequences
Koepka’s return to the PGA Tour came with restrictions. He was not eligible for the $100 million FedEx Cup bonus program for the 2026 season and missed out on an estimated $85 million in potential earnings by not competing in certain events. However, he made 11 cuts in 16 starts, including a tied-12th finish at The Masters in April.
Koepka’s comments followed his final round of the Wyndham Championship, where he acknowledged his disappointment in his performance while emphasizing his enjoyment of being back on tour. He stated, 'I think it’s pretty pathetic that I can’t get through. Zero top-10s basically in two years.'
