Police have named a suspect in the deaths of a couple whose bodies were discovered buried behind their Arizona home, triggering an international manhunt for their 27-year-old son. Authorities confirmed Friday that the remains of the parents were located in the backyard of their Litchfield Park residence following a missing persons investigation.
Officials identified the suspect as Matthew Flores, who is believed to have fled the country after the deaths of his mother and father. Investigators reported finding large amounts of blood inside the home along with evidence of an attempted cleanup, which they described as indicating foul play.
A mini excavator was required to recover the bodies, which were in a state of decomposition, according to Avondale Police Officer Daniel Benavidez. The FBI and U.S. Marshals Service have joined the search for Flores, who remains at large.
The investigation began after the family’s disappearance was reported under suspicious circumstances. Neighbors and acquaintances expressed shock at Flores’ status as a suspect, describing him as a kind individual. The Flores family issued a statement expressing devastation and gratitude for community support while requesting privacy during the ongoing probe.
Authorities have not disclosed a motive or additional details about the case, which remains under active investigation.
