Trump Media & Technology Group has launched a Truth API service offering paid subscribers real-time access to posts on its Truth Social platform, including those from former President Donald Trump, within milliseconds of publication. The company confirmed that more than 10 customers have signed up for the service, which carries a monthly fee ranging from $60,000 to $100,000.
The API provides licensed, real-time data feeds of posts from Truth Social’s top accounts, not just Trump’s, according to CEO Kevin McGurn. The service is designed to give subscribers—primarily high-frequency trading firms—a potential advantage in reacting to market-moving announcements, such as those on tariffs or foreign policy. McGurn stated in a call with Wall Street analysts that the company is in active discussions with cloud computing firms, AI companies, and news organizations to expand access, with plans to eventually offer the service to retail investors.
Business Strategy and Financial Context
Trump Media, which has never turned a profit since its founding in 2021, has struggled to establish a sustainable revenue model. The company’s advertising revenue on Truth Social declined in the second quarter, according to an August 10 regulatory filing, though no financial details were provided. The Truth API represents an attempt to diversify income streams amid ongoing financial challenges.
McGurn described the early demand for the Truth API as encouraging, framing it as a step toward broader adoption across industries. The service was officially launched on August 1, with pricing set at $100,000 per month for the fastest access tier. The company has not disclosed the identities of the initial customers, but McGurn noted that securities trading firms are among the primary subscribers seeking an edge in financial markets.
Ethical and Regulatory Considerations
Financial experts have raised ethical concerns about the potential for the Truth API to provide unfair advantages in trading based on early access to posts. The service could allow subscribers to react to Trump’s announcements—such as policy shifts or market-moving statements—before they reach the general public. While major social media platforms like Instagram and X also offer API services, Truth Social’s association with Trump’s posts has drawn particular attention due to the potential impact on financial markets.
Trump Media has not commented on whether the service complies with any existing financial regulations governing market data access. The company has emphasized that the API is intended for licensed subscribers and operates within the terms of Truth Social’s platform policies.
Future Expansion Plans
In addition to financial firms, Trump Media is exploring partnerships with cloud computing providers, AI companies, and news organizations to integrate the Truth API into their services. McGurn indicated that the company plans to eventually market the data feed to retail investors, though no timeline has been provided. The API’s rollout marks a shift in Trump Media’s business strategy, which has historically relied on advertising revenue and user engagement on Truth Social.
The company’s financial disclosures suggest that the Truth API could play a key role in its efforts to achieve profitability, though its long-term viability remains uncertain. Analysts have noted that while the service may generate significant revenue, its sustainability depends on continued demand from high-paying subscribers and broader market adoption.
