Florida authorities arrested Isabelle Rose Johnson, 38, on Thursday, ending a 45-day multi-state manhunt that spanned Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. Johnson was taken into custody without incident at a home off Peanut Road outside Cottondale, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.
Johnson faces a murder charge in connection with the death of Jason Christopher Coulthart, 43, whose body was discovered buried in a shallow grave on a Freeport property on June 25. Coulthart was last seen leaving the College Condominiums complex in Florida on May 24. Investigators reported that Coulthart’s remains were confirmed via DNA match in July.
Arrest Details and Investigation
Walton County Sheriff’s Office officials confirmed Johnson’s arrest in a social media post, stating, “We got her. Isabelle Johnson is in custody.” The arrest followed information developed by the Walton County Sheriff’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit, though no further details were provided as the investigation remains ongoing.
Johnson was booked into the Jackson County Jail and is expected to be extradited to Walton County. Authorities indicated she could face additional charges. The manhunt involved more than 40 subpoenas and over 20 search warrants, according to Walton County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Dustin Cosson, who praised the cooperation among local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
Victim’s Cause of Death and Case Background
Coulthart’s body was found with a ziptie around his neck and buried under a layer of concrete. Five individuals have been arrested and charged in connection with the murder, including two accused of aiding Johnson in evading investigators.
Manhunt Scope and Law Enforcement Response
The search for Johnson required “tons and tons of man-hours”, according to authorities, who alerted law enforcement agencies in areas she was known to frequent. During the manhunt, Johnson was described as a “master manipulator” by investigators, who alleged she used multiple disguises and identities to evade capture. Officials did not elaborate on the specific methods used in her apprehension.
Johnson’s arrest marks the conclusion of a weeks-long pursuit that drew attention to the challenges of tracking fugitives who employ evasion tactics. The case remains under active investigation, with authorities continuing to pursue leads related to Coulthart’s death and Johnson’s alleged associates.
