King Charles has opened the historic Water Tower on the Sandringham Estate to public rentals for the first time, following a recent renovation. The neo-Byzantine structure, originally built in 1877 to supply water to the royal residence, has been restored and is now available for overnight stays starting at £151 per night.
The Water Tower joins two other rental properties on the estate—the Gardens House and the Experience Freedom glamping site—which offer visitors unique accommodations within the 20,000-acre grounds. The renovation preserves the tower’s original architectural features, including its circular form, intricate brickwork, and distinctive design by engineer James Mansergh.
The rental includes access to the tower’s elegant living room, a bedroom with a fireplace and countryside views, and a rooftop terrace offering panoramic vistas of the Norfolk landscape. The estate described the Water Tower as a “romantic retreat for two” in promotional materials, highlighting its blend of royal history and modern amenities.
The Experience Freedom glamping site, operated by the Caravan and Motorhome Club since 1977, also remains available for stays. The site offers 15 safari tents, including a deluxe option with a stove, kitchen appliances, a modern bathroom, and a dishwasher. Prices for the glamping experience start at £79 per night during low season, accommodating up to six guests across three bedrooms.
The Sandringham Estate, a private royal residence, has long been a site of public interest due to its ties to the British monarchy. The estate hosts seasonal events, including the royal family’s traditional Christmas gatherings, and has expanded its offerings to include commercial rentals while maintaining its historic character.
