Four years after the murder of Sam Rimmer, Merseyside Police have announced a £20,000 reward for information leading to a conviction in the case. The 22-year-old was fatally shot in the back during an incident in Dingle, Liverpool, on August 16, 2022.
Police have made 10 arrests in connection with the killing but have yet to charge anyone. The investigation remains active, with officers appealing for witnesses to come forward.
The murder weapon was identified as a Skorpion sub-machine gun, a military-grade firearm capable of rapid fire. Four men on two electric bikes fired multiple shots, striking Rimmer and other houses in the area. The suspects allegedly used a sound—possibly a bike horn or engine noise—to summon the group outside before the attack.
Detective Chief Inspector Steve McGrath, leading the investigation, stated: 'Today marks four years since Sam was murdered, and I can only imagine how difficult this occasion must be for his family and friends. We are just as determined to find those responsible as we were four years ago.' McGrath emphasized that while arrests have been made and public tips received, the investigation still requires a critical piece of evidence to progress.
Rimmer’s mother, Joanne Rimmer, told the BBC that while justice would not bring her son back, it would provide some closure. She described the ongoing uncertainty as an additional burden for families awaiting answers.
Police have released CCTV images of one suspect and continue to urge anyone with information to contact them. The reward, funded by Crimestoppers, remains open to encourage further public assistance in resolving the case.
