Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old heir accused of murdering his parents, has renewed his demand for access to a $558,000 trust fund distribution with accrued interest to pay legal fees ahead of his trial. A probate hearing is scheduled for Monday morning in Los Angeles to review the request.
Reiner’s legal team filed a declaration on Friday asserting that the funds, owed to him upon his 30th birthday, were illegally withheld. His attorneys argued that he did not consent to any deferral of the distribution and demanded immediate release of the money, including interest. The filing also stated that Reiner did not recall authorizing his mother, Michele Reiner, to withhold the funds on his behalf.
In response, the trust’s managers argued in court documents that the distribution cannot be disbursed while Reiner is awaiting trial on two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner. The couple was found stabbed to death in their Brentwood mansion on December 14, and Reiner was indicted by a grand jury in January.
The trust’s legal representatives stated in a Thursday filing that Reiner’s urgency for the funds stems from the circumstances surrounding his parents’ deaths, which he is accused of causing. They emphasized that the trust’s terms prohibit disbursement under these conditions.
Reiner, who has hired high-profile defense attorney Alan Jackson, is facing life in prison if convicted. His next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, where a judge will hear arguments regarding the trust fund dispute.
The probate hearing will take place before Judge Ruben Garcia in Los Angeles County Superior Court. The outcome could determine whether Reiner gains access to the funds to cover his legal expenses during the murder trial.
